I have been rolling my ankle a couple to few times a year for the last 10 years. It’s never been really a big deal, just some ice, ibuprofen, and I’m back on my feet in a day or 2.
In May, I had a particular bad inversion while walking down the stairs with Teo… It was very awkwardly twisted, as my body shifted to protect Teo. I could tell this sprain was different. The pain reduced, but never really went away. I went to an orthopedic doctor, who ordered me custom shoe orthotics, and started me on physical therapy.
That was going fine for a few weeks, until my ankle rolled again. I never have had 2 inversions that close in time. I then had an MRI, and they identified several torn ligaments, tendon sprains, and effusions.
We are trying some physical therapy, but it is very likely that I will need to have re-constructive ankle surgery.
