Hey All…  The surgery went very well…  They ended up finding more damage than they had anticipated, and decided to cast me up to allow the ligaments to heal without being stretched.

The timetable for recovery should be about the same, but the cast eill be on for about 6 weeks.

    Today is my ankle reconstruction…

It should be a routine procedure,  under an hour, but will have a difficult recovery…

I’ll be on complete bed rest for 2-3 weeks, followed by minimal activity for another 3-4 weeks, with anticipated full normal activity in 3-4 months.

Please keep Kirstie in your thoughts and prayers…  On top of wrangling up the kids, she will have to be making meals (usually my deal), and I will be unable to help with the kids for at least a couple of weeks.
Pray for patience with the kids as well, since they will not have the “daddy time “, and will have to take it easy on me..  (Good luck telling that to Teo!)

If anyone would like to help us out with meals, you can contact our Church administrator:

You can reach us at 952-232-5321 or here.

Thanks to those who have offered kind words and prayers during this injury and recovery.

  • Bad Wheel…
By Rob on July 20th, 2010 | No Comments Comments

I have been rolling my ankle a couple to few times a year for the last 10 years. It’s never been really a big deal, just some ice, ibuprofen, and I’m back on my feet in a day or 2.

In May, I had a particular bad inversion while walking down the stairs with Teo… It was very awkwardly twisted, as my body shifted to protect Teo. I could tell this sprain was different. The pain reduced, but never really went away. I went to an orthopedic doctor, who ordered me custom shoe orthotics, and started me on physical therapy.

That was going fine for a few weeks, until my ankle rolled again. I never have had 2 inversions that close in time. I then had an MRI, and they identified several torn ligaments, tendon sprains, and effusions.

We are trying some physical therapy, but it is very likely that I will need to have re-constructive ankle surgery.

  • Happy 3rd Birthday Bela!
By Rob on May 19th, 2010 | No Comments Comments

We did not forget about precious Isabela’s Birthday!  As most bloggers have encountered…  The “Save” button, and “Publish” button, while close in proximity, and similar in appearance… do not achieve the same result.  :)

    Bela and Daddy

Bela is 3 years old going on 15.  She is simply amazing with her vocabulary, reasoning, and imagination.  We have a family tradition of telling a story before bedtime.  Usually it’s a bible story, sometimes we read, or just make one up.  Bela has decided it is her job to make up the bedtime stories.  You would not believe the stories she comes up with.  We have such a brilliant and creative  girl.

For her birthday Bela asked… (Multiple times) to go camping.  So we headed out to Cleary Lake Park Reserve, and spent the weekend out there.  This was our first camping trip of the season and we had a blast.

    REI Hobitat

It’s a mellow spring around the Doar house.  Rob is finishing up his business traveling or the foreseeable future with a trip to Panama, and Kirstie and the kids are enjoying the lovely weather and budding plants.  Happy Birthday Bela!  We love you!
