Cloth Diapers???

  • It has been brought to our attention more than a few times over the last few weeks that babies poo and pee alot.
Some of our friends and mentors have suggested that we switch to cloth diapers. We wanted to know if any of our readers had any thoughts or pros/cons about cloth vs. disposable.

The cost savings could be great. Isabela goes through about 10-15 diapers a day which is cost $15-$20 a week. Apparently Isabela didn’t read the articles I did, saying she should be using 7-10 diapers a day. :) Oh Well…

Well obviously cloth diapers will require cleaning, which we are ok with. But the start-up cost can be shocking. If we did get diapers, we would want to get “one size” to prevent from needing to purchase new diapers every few months. It will cost anywhere from $100-$200 to get enough diapers to get through the day. This means that after 3 months of disposables, this could pay for itself. However, we will need to be doing laundry every day or 2.

Well, we are open to thoughts/ideas/suggestions on the subject. Thanks All! :)

Hey you two, we tried cloth diapers for a while with Cat…we found it just didn’t work. THey are not as comfortable for baby and you either get a diaper service or are overwhelmed with the demands of laundry that is very difficult to keep up with. OUr advice! Stick with disposables. At least when we went through it.

So I say that poop only belongs one place.. .the garbage.

And if you’ve ever had to change mass amounts of diapers (which you’re getting used to now) you will see that you don’t want to be exposed to it anymore then you have to.

All this to say, I think it’s worth the money for the wonderfulness of just being able to wrap it up and throw it away.

Be proud to be an American and take advantage of our wonderful invention of disposable diapers. :-D

Your baby is beautiful by the way!

    Much Love from me! :-)

BUT my mom did cloth for the first 4 of us and it worked…just make sure you get those plastic panty looking things to cover the cloth or ELSE! :) anyways…you could do it khmer style (bare-butt-pee-on-command) haha. JUST kidding. love you guys! -brittany

Hey there! My mom has been doing daycare for about 20 years and I have three younger brothers. Believe me when I say don’t go cloth! It’s annoying and may be a little cheaper, but it will never pay for itself in the respect that it’s more work! The pictures are absolutly beautiful too!!!! How amazing God puts beauty on this earth!!! He put so much in to Bela!!!

NH Dad was raised in cloth diapers. They are more environmentally good and it is your generation that needs to be concerned with that. Where is all our trash going to be put if we keep on at the rate we are producing it now? I am sure you are doing laundry regularly already and this is just an extra load. Plastic is fine when you are traveling or out and away from the house. Cloth is also better for the baby as the plastic ones are treated with all kinds of chemicals.

Glad to hear that all is well.

Hi! I went to BCOM from ’95-’97 and stumbled on your blog today. I have 3 kids that have all been potty trained really early. Although I did disposable diapers all the way, the time to start potty training is now and not later. It sounds crazy, but check out the link to my blog and see what you think… :-)
    Blessings!
